Okay, Stevie – Hold onto your hat, old friend, guess what?….They DID it!
It took seven games, extra innings, coming back from three games down, but the Chicago Cubs are World Champs!
I thought of you (and Steve Bartman) all game long, not having a dog in the fight, me being a died in the wool Red Sox fan. So I hope that you, and Harry Caray, and Ernie Banks, and Ron Santo can smile everlasting, cause your Cubbies broke the Curse of the Goat and 108 years of not being World Series Champs.
Steve Goodman was a master entertainer. A folksinger and the best one-man-band I ever saw. A crackerjack guitar player, a songwriter’s songwriter who died of Leukemia, in 1984. He was probably best known for having written “City of New Orleans,” but Steve wrote tons of absolutely great songs.
Now more than 30 years after his death, his musical ode to his beloved Cubbies can finally be the HarryShots Song of the Week. Here is “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” by Steve Goodman.
