From the compilation CD, Day Of The Dead, an album of covers from The Grateful Dead, comes “Peggy-o” by The National. While the Dead played this tune regularly, it is certainly not original to them. I first heard this song on Bob Dylan’s first album back in the early 1960s, although he did not write this song, either. Another great rendition of “Peggy-o” was Simon and Garfunkel on one of their early records.
It probably has it roots in Celtic music going back several hundred years.
